CONCEPT / PERFECT FACE
The concept of the 'perfect face' series is quite simple, but the result surprising and visually effective. An en face portrait is divided exactly iin the middle of the face and each part is mounted on a plate that is at a 90 degree angle to it. This plate carries a mirror, reflects the painting in the opposite direction and making it a perfectly symmetrical whole, a 'perfect face'.
What is amazing is that the perfect faces that result from the two halves of the original portrait do not seem to belong to the same person!
The painting in this series are the first to work with the reflection of the image and thus also involve the viewer. For his point of view decides what he gets to see, the image emerges and disappears again, seems alive and as if animated. In later series, especially the 'Hidden Treasures', this idea was perfected.
