CONCEPT | WAVES
The series "Waves" has evolved from the series "Hidden Treasure".
Fall 2019, Mariangela Capuzzo, the artistic director of ICART, commissioned a large mural for the noble dining of the cruise ship CELEBRITY APEX. She liked my works of the 'Hidden Treasure' series and wanted me to work with that concept.
However, the space constraints, which only allowed for a shallow depth of the wall object, and the requirement that the image should be easily seen and enjoyed from any angle in the room, made it impossible.
Therefore I flattened the voluminous sculptural form of the three-dimensional image carrier of the Hidden treasures series as much as possible. The spectacular effects of a deformed mirror surface could thus be preserved, as well as the integration of the surrounding space of the work into the painting, which provides additional versatility and dynmics. The painting itself is no longer experienced as a reflection, but now mixes directly with the facets of the sparkling mirror surface (see images below).
I liked the new concept so much that I started to continue with other works of that kind.
